By Zoila Palma: On June 25, 2026, Prime Minister John Briceño officially received the Presidency Pro Tempore (PPT) of the Central American Integration System (SICA) from Roberto Álvarez, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Dominican Republic, during the Official Transfer Ceremony held at the SICA General Secretariat in San Salvador.
As Belize assumes this important regional leadership role, Prime Minister Briceño reaffirmed Belize’s commitment to strengthening regional integration and cooperation.
Among the immediate priorities of Belize’s Presidency will be fostering the full participation of all Central American member states to advance SICA’s shared successes, collective development goals, and regional prosperity.
Belize’s delegation was facilitated by Lou-Anne Burns Martinez, Ambassador of Belize to El Salvador, while Ambassador Amalia Mai, who shares responsibility for SICA affairs, accompanied the Prime Minister.
