By Zoila Palma: Today, the 14th National Climate Outlook Forum (NCOF-14) opened bringing together government agencies, technical experts, development partners, and key stakeholders to strengthen collaboration on climate resilience and disaster risk management in Belize.
The forum was held under the theme, “Strengthening Disaster Risk Management and Resilience through Climate Services in the Context of El Niño and Climate Extremes”.
Discussions focused on Belize’s 2026 wet and hurricane season outlook, the potential development of El Niño conditions, and the importance of climate services, impact-based forecasting, and multi-hazard early warning systems in supporting informed decision-making.
Participants also explored strategies to improve inter-agency coordination, enhance preparedness across climate-sensitive sectors, such as agriculture, water resources, health, energy, tourism, and emergency management to ensure climate information is accessible, actionable, and user-centered.
The National Meteorological Service of Belize extended its sincere appreciation to all participants and partners for their valuable contributions.
