By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 38-year-old Antelope Street resident was fined $25 on Monday after he pleaded guilty to public drinking in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court.

Pablo Jacobs appeared unrepresented before Magistrate Neeshad Mohammed in Court #5, where he wasted no time and admitted to the charge.

Police say that on Sunday, June 14, 2026, Jacobs was found drinking an alcoholic beverage, a blue CIB beer, in front of Golden Sky Supermarket.

For the offense, Jacobs was fined $20 plus a $5 cost of court. He has until August 31, 2026 to pay, or he will face one week in prison.

During mitigation, Jacobs told the court that he has been unable to work for the past two years after falling from a scaffold. He appeared in court using walking sticks and asked for mercy and time to pay.

The court was also informed that Jacobs had two outstanding fines from previous convictions for being found drunk in 2019 and 2022, totaling $160. Magistrate Mohammed extended the time for Jacobs to pay those old fines, giving him two weeks to settle the balance or face imprisonment.
