By Zoila Palma: Today, UNDP Belize is highlighting the participation of Student Ambassador Kyle Ali in the Guardians of Tomorrow Youth Panel held during the 2nd National Biodiversity Dialogue.
“Kyle is a member of the UNDP Student Ambassadors Programme, an initiative that empowers university students to serve as advocates for sustainable development, youth engagement, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through leadership, outreach, volunteerism, and policy dialogue. Through the programme, student ambassadors act as bridges between UNDP and young people, helping to amplify youth voices on national development priorities,” UNDP noted.
Ali represented the University of Belize and the UNDP Student Ambassadors Programme and contributed youth perspectives on biodiversity financing, environmental governance, and the importance of youth engagement in shaping sustainable conservation solutions for Belize.
Kyle emphasized that biodiversity is not only an environmental issue but also a foundation of Belize’s economy, food security, tourism industry, and community well-being. He noted that protecting biodiversity is essential to achieving sustainable development and building resilient communities.
UNDP Belize noted that Kyle also highlighted the need for innovative and sustainable financing mechanisms that support biodiversity conservation without increasing public debt. Such approaches can help safeguard natural resources while creating opportunities for local communities and young people.
His participation also focused on meaningful youth participation in decision-making processes. He advocated for young people to move beyond consultation and become active contributors in developing, implementing, and monitoring environmental solutions.
UNDP Belize noted that Ali’s participation demonstrates the valuable role young people play in advancing environmental stewardship and supporting Belize’s efforts to achieve the Sustainable Development Goal
