By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Two Belizean men are dead following a devastating chain of events on the Thomas Vincent Ramos Highway near the Punta Gorda junction on Saturday night in what police are describing as a fatal road traffic accident involving three vehicles.

ASP Stacy Smith confirmed the deaths of fifty one year old Willie Cruz, a Belizean customs officer of Independence Village, and twenty six year old Elmer Cal, a Belizean labourer of Red Bank Village.

According to preliminary investigations the incident began when a Mazda Tribute driven by Andy August collided with a motorcycle being driven by Cal. The impact threw Cal from his motorcycle.

August then stopped his vehicle on the roadway and got out to check on Cal. While his vehicle remained stationary on the highway with the door open, Cruz who was travelling on a separate motorcycle came upon the scene and collided with the open door of the Mazda Tribute.

The collision threw Cruz from his motorcycle causing severe injuries. Both Cal and Cruz succumbed to the injuries they sustained in the crashes.

Police have since issued a Notice of Intended Prosecution to August as investigations into the incident continue.

Belize’s roads continue to claim lives at an alarming rate. Two families are waking up today without their loved ones because of what happened on that highway Saturday night.
