By Zoila Palma: Prime Minister John Briceno says that the reason that customers light bills showed an increase was due to more usage especially during the hot weather.
“What happens is when it is hot people use more electricity you know people would put on the fan for longer periods or the refridge they open every minute or if they have on AC they make it work longer so obviously apart from that there was a slight increase in rates you use more when it’s very hot. When it’s not hot you don’t need to use your AC, you don’t have to put on the fan, you’re not drinking cold water every minute so there’s more usage,” Briceno said.
The Prime Minister also assured Belizeans that BEL has no “no nefarious plan” to magically increase customers light bills.
“It’s simply because it’s hotter and people use more electricity,” he added.
