By Breaking Belize News Staff: A Belize City police constable was escorted to the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday after an alleged confrontation between two police officers ended in a physical altercation at the Puma Gas Station on Freetown Road.

Police Constable Louis Pascascio, 31, of a Gabourel Lane address in Belize City, appeared before the Chief Magistrate in Court #1 in the presence of his attorney, Oscar Selgado. He was read a single charge of aggravated assault upon a police officer.

The alleged victim is a police officer attached to the Eastern Division Motorcycle Team.

According to police, the incident unfolded after a vehicle allegedly ran a red light at the corner of Saint Thomas Street and Saint Joseph Street. The allegedly assaulted officer who was on patrol with another PC, reportedly pursued the vehicle, which later turned into the Puma Gas Station on Freetown Road.

Police allege that the officer approached the heavily tinted vehicle with his service pistol drawn and knocked on the driver’s window. A man later identified as PC Pascascio allegedly exited the driver’s seat and began walking toward the responding officer.

The officer reported that he identified himself as a police officer and ordered the man to halt, but the man allegedly continued advancing toward him. Mejia said he pushed the man back from his personal space, but the man allegedly advanced again and slapped him across the face, causing a small cut wound to his lower lip.

The officer then allegedly pushed the man, causing him to fall to the ground, where he was subdued and detained. Pascascio was later taken to the Queen Street Police Station and issued medico-legal forms for injuries seen to the right side of his face.

There was no objection to bail, and Pascascio was granted bail with the condition that he maintain a distance of 100 feet from the virtual complainant.

He is due back in court on July 30, 2026, for disclosure.

This is not the first time Pascascio has faced a criminal charge. In September 2024, he was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm involving Belizean national Shaun Christopher Gill. That charge was later withdrawn after Gill requested no further court action.
