By Zoila Palma: Today, Mayor Jorge Rosales and the Benque Viejo Town Council congratulated Hills of Promise SDA Primary School for participating in the Festival of Arts Golden Night.
The Festival of Arts Golden Night was held on May 25, 2026 at the Sacred Heart Auditorium.
Hills of Promise SDA received a special recognition for promoting history and culture through dance with their creative folklore performance, Baile de la Chatona.
La Chatona is one of the most recognizable folklore traditions in Belize, especially in Benque Viejo del Carmen. It is not just a dance but a living cultural performance that combines storytelling, music and celebration.
The recognition was made after 46 other performances from more than 20 schools, including high schools.
