By Zoila Palma: Former UDP Minister Elvin Penner is reportedly under investigation after allegedly being caught removing explosive-related materials from a restricted Belize Defence Force site in the Baldy Beacon area.
Last Thursday, a video circulated showing Penner carrying materials in his truck including explosive-related materials that were part of an ongoing operation involving the destruction of unexploded ordnance recovered from across Belize.
The operation was being carried out by the BDF.
The Belize Police Department (BPD) says that it is now reviewing potential charges for Penner.
“As it relates to the inquiry in relation to Mr. Penner, I can confirm that the department has received a report and two statements and those are being reviewed in light of the dangerous goods act,” ASP Stacy Smith, Staff Officer of BPD said.
Smith says that investigators are reviewing the statement and the dangerous goods act to see if the element of any of the offenses are there.
