The National Climate Change Office (NCCO), within the Ministry of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Solid Waste Management, is hosting the 2026 Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) National Designated Entities (NDE) Forum in San Ignacio, Cayo at the San Ignacio Resort Hotel from May 19-21,2026.
The forum is organized by the Climate Technology Centre and Network (CTCN), the implementation arm of the Technology Mechanism under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
This regional forum represents a key step in strengthening collaboration and accelerating access to climate technologies across Latin America and the Caribbean, in alignment with countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). The engagements will focus on:
- Advancing climate technology transfer and deployment, including the use of digital tools such as artificial intelligence, drones, and climate data systems to strengthen climate risk management;
- Promoting nature-based and innovative solutions, such as mangrove restoration and climate-smart applications to support resilient livelihoods and protect vulnerable communities; and
- Strengthening regional collaboration and capacity, including system-level approaches such as the water-energy-food nexus and enhanced partnerships with financial institutions and technology providers.
Participants will include representatives from key international financial institutions, such as the Green Climate Fund, Global Environment Facility, World Bank, and Inter-American Development Bank, alongside technical experts, CTCN Network members, and regional organizations.
Hon. Orlando Habet, Minister of Sustainable Development, Climate Change and Solid Waste Management stated, “This forum will strengthen cooperation, unlock climate-smart investments, and showcase practical solutions that support our NDCs and improve lives.” In this regard, Belize reaffirms its commitment to advancing inclusive, technology-driven climate action and strengthening regional partnerships that support resilient and sustainable development across Latin America and the Caribbean.
