San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council to host 5th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration next weekend!

By Zoila Palma:  The San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council has announced plans for its 5th annual Cinco de Mayo celebration, continuing a growing tradition that highlights cultural ties between Belize and Mexico.

The two-day event is scheduled for May 15 and 16, 2026, and will be held along Burns Avenue in San Ignacio.

The celebration is expected to attract residents and visitors for a weekend of food, music, and cultural activities.

Councilor Aaron Mai has been actively engaging with food vendors ahead of the event, promoting a variety of Mexican-inspired dishes. Offerings will include tacos, tortas, pibil, and elotes locos, among other traditional favorites.

The council noted that the event serves an important cultural purpose, reflecting Belize’s close historical and social connections with Mexico.
