By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 63-year-old Belize City resident has been fined after he was found in possession of a crack pipe during a police patrol in Taylor’s Alley. This marks the third such arrest of a drug user at the same location in the last week.
Oscar Sabido, a plumber of a Pelican Street address, appeared unrepresented before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2, where he was read a single charge of possession of a utensil used for smoking a controlled drug.
Sabido wasted no time in admitting to the offence but told the court, “This is the first time I am being caught,” while also claiming that the pipe did not belong to him.
The incident occurred on Monday, April 27, 2026, when police officers conducting foot patrol in the area observed Sabido sitting in a yard acting suspiciously. As officers approached, he allegedly threw an object to the ground near his feet. A subsequent search led to the discovery of a small metal pipe, approximately 2½ inches in length, believed to be used for smoking drugs.
Sabido was escorted to the police station and formally charged.
Taking into account that he is a first-time offender, the court exercised leniency and imposed a non-custodial sentence. Sabido was fined $200 plus a $5 court cost, totaling $205, which he must pay by June 1, 2026. In default, he will serve two months’ imprisonment.
