By Breaking Belize News Staff: On Friday night, several karaoke bars in San Ignacio and Santa Elena told Breaking Belize News (BBN) that police closed them down.

The owners of the Karaoke bars were calling on the San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council, the Liquor License board or the police to explain what occurred.

One business owner explained to BBN that they were closed down without any explanation and their business do hold a public special license.

And today, Chairman of the Liquor License Board Karim Adle issued a statement saying that there “exists NO new law in regards to karaoke within the twin towns.”

Adle added that as the chairman of the board, he has no authority to instruct and direct police to shut down any business lawfully operating within the Twin Towns.

“I am aware of what occurred Friday the 24th of April, and I categorically deny any suggestion that I orchestrated any closure of any business. I will however, disclose that Tandoor received a letter from me, as the Chairman of the Liquor Licensing Board on the 20th of April 2026 citing severe breeches of their license. To date, they have not responded to the said letter,” Adle explained.

Adle says that the board has been the only board that has called a town hall meeting allowing members of the community to voice concerns over establishments even before granting a license and also remind these applicants of their responsibility in abiding to noise levels.

Adle further called out Mayor Earl Trapp for being absent from all Liquor Licensing meetings including this important community meeting.

“Instead of contacting me in relation to the matter that occurred on Friday, Mayor Trapp has instead chosen to misrepresent to the public that it was I who instructed the police to shut down Trins and Tandoor.

While I understand it is now political season, I urge Mayor Trapp to be honest with the people of the Twin Towns to whom we have an obligation,” Adle said.
