By Aaron Humes: Hip hop legend Moses “Shyne” Barrow has received the Key to Brooklyn from Borough President Antonio Reynoso, recognizing his significant contributions to music and politics over the past 25 years as a proud Belizean Brooklynite. The event took place against the backdrop of Shyne’s highly anticipated return to the stage at Kings Theatre on May 2.

Reynoso commended Shyne for his impact on both the local community and the broader music industry, stating that his journey serves as an inspiration for many. The ceremony was marked as Shyne joined Public Advocate Jumaane Williams at the East Flatbush Young Men’s Mentorship Expo, where they shared valuable knowledge and provided young participants with dress suits for upcoming job interviews.

Reflecting on the honor, Shyne expressed profound gratitude, stating, “I was moved with great emotions to be recognized by the Borough President for my contributions in Music & Politics as a Belizean Brooklynite. I share the Key with all youth, all people who are on their journey to redemption and exaltation!”

Emphasizing his connection with the young people at the event, Shyne declared, “I see myself in those young people gathered there today, young people in Belize and the world over! My story of triumph over tragedy is yours! NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER GIVE IN! KEEP GOING! YOUR TIME WILL COME.”
