By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): United States President Donald Trump is facing global criticism after sharing an AI-generated image portraying himself as Jesus Christ, while also launching a sharp public attack on Pope Leo.
The controversial post appeared on Trump’s Truth Social platform during a series of late-night messages, where he also accused the Pope of being “weak on crime” and “terrible for foreign policy.” Trump further claimed that Pope Leo would not be in the Vatican if he were not in the White House.
The AI-generated image, which depicted Trump in a Christ-like pose, was shared without explanation but quickly drew backlash from both political observers and religious communities worldwide.
Even some of Trump’s own supporters reportedly urged him to remove the post, calling it inappropriate and disrespectful.
The dispute appears to stem from comments made by Pope Leo, who recently criticised global conflicts, including tensions involving Iran. The Pope stated that God rejects the prayers of leaders who start wars and described the situation as “atrocious,” urging de-escalation.
Trump responded by accusing the Pope of supporting weak policies and misrepresenting positions on crime and nuclear weapons, claims the Vatican has not endorsed.
Speaking to international media, Pope Leo maintained a calm stance, saying he had “no fear” of the Trump administration and emphasised that his messages are rooted in peace and the teachings of the Gospel.
The incident has sparked debate globally, including in Belize, where many citizens, predominantly Christian, have expressed concern over the use of religious imagery in political messaging.
