By Zoila Palma:  The crew of Artemis II has made history with a diverse team that includes the first woman, first Black astronaut, and first Canadian ever assigned to a lunar mission, Reuters report.

The four-person crew traveled around the Moon and back, marking a major milestone in human space exploration and international collaboration.

Mission commander Reid Wiseman brought extensive experience to the flight, having logged 165 days aboard the International Space Station during a 2014 mission. A former U.S. Navy test pilot, Wiseman later served as NASA’s chief astronaut before being selected to lead Artemis II, placing him in charge of one of the most significant missions in decades.

Pilot Victor Glover also played a historic role as the first Black astronaut ever sent on a lunar mission. Glover previously spent 168 days in orbit as part of NASA’s Crew-1 mission, the first operational flight of a SpaceX Crew Dragon spacecraft to the International Space Station. A Navy veteran who has flown more than 40 aircraft, he is also a seasoned spacewalker with four missions outside the station.

Mission specialist Christina Koch has also been etched in the record books as the first woman to fly on a Moon-bound mission. She previously set the record for the longest continuous spaceflight by a woman, spending 328 days aboard the International Space Station, and participated in the first three all-female spacewalks. Trained as an engineer and physicist, Koch has also conducted research in extreme environments such as Antarctica.

Mission specialist Jeremy Hansen, a colonel in the Royal Canadian Air Force and the first Canadian ever assigned to a lunar mission was also part of the crew.

“Reid, Victor, Christina, and Jeremy, welcome home, and congratulations on a truly historic achievement. NASA is grateful to President Donald Trump and partners in Congress for providing the mandate and resources that made this mission and the future of Artemis possible,” said NASA Administrator Jared Isaacman.
