By Aaron Humes: Jose Bautista of San Jose Succotz, Cayo District has been identified as the victim of a fatal traffic accident near Rumors Hill on the George Price Highway on Monday night.
The crash involved a bus and two vehicles. A police report says that around 7:45 p.m. between miles 71 and 72, responding police found a gold Toyota Camry in the middle of the highway, containing Bautista, 23 and a passenger, Dorian Bautista; a yellow Bluebird bus driven by Brian Kerr, 22 of Benque Viejo Town with damage to the front driver side; and a red Toyota Corolla taxi driven by 24-year-old Roynel Naj of San Ignacio Town in a nearby drain with front-end damage.
Police investigations suggest Bautista was traveling east when his vehicle allegedly swerved into the path of the bus and they collided. There was a secondary collision with the taxi, which was coming behind the bus. Dorian Bautista sustained minor injuries and he, Kerr and Naj were all taken to the San Ignacio Community Hospital and provided samples for testing to determine who, if anyone, was under the influence of alcohol. Jose Bautista’s body has been transferred to Belize City’s Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
Investigations are ongoing and police have served notices of intended prosecution.
