By Aaron Humes: With each passing day since her disappearance last Friday, the family of 28-year-old Deborah “Bree” Arthurs, a Belmopan resident, grapples with increasing despair as their hope of finding her alive has dwindled significantly.
Indeed, they now fear she may have come to an untimely end, having been last seen on the afternoon of March 27 in front of La Popular Bakery in Belize City, where witnesses reported seeing her enter a silver Chevrolet Equinox. No one – not family, not friends, not work – have heard from her since, something they say is entirely out of her character.
Her family say Deborah had traveled to Belize City to drop off her son at the water taxi terminal, where he was set to visit his father in San Pedro. Relatives told Channel 7 News that while Deborah would occasionally go out, she would always stay in contact with family.
Family members appear to have ruled out any relationship to gang activity, as Deborah was not known to be involved in any gang activity. However, they admitted that in recent months, she had begun socializing with what they refer to as the “wrong crowd,” raising concerns over her safety and associations.
The family has also shared a disturbing video to Channel 7 News that they believe contains sounds of Deborah screaming, further intensifying their fears.
Police have begun an investigation. If you have seen Deborah or know where she is, contact 922 (Crimestoppers), the nearest police station or 610-6094.
