By Breaking Belize News Staff: Nineteen-year-old Nathan Ochoa is now free after the charges of rape and wounding against him were withdrawn in Court #1 on Tuesday morning.
Shortly after 10:00 a.m., Ochoa was escorted to court by prison officers, where he was informed that both charges had been withdrawn. The court was told that the withdrawal came on the directive of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
The decision brought an end to the case that had kept Ochoa behind bars since his bail was revoked in January 2026.
Ochoa was initially arraigned in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on September 17, 2025, after being accused of raping and wounding a 21-year-old woman in the Ladyville area.
According to the original police report, officers responded to information of a woman in distress at a home in Ladyville during the early hours of September 14, 2025. Police reported finding the woman with visible injuries to her face and neck, after which she alleged that she had been assaulted and raped.
Investigators said the woman reported that Ochoa, someone known to her, had come to collect items he had left at the house during an earlier visit. She alleged that after refusing to leave, he forced his way into her bedroom, attacked her, and sexually assaulted her before neighbors heard her screams and called police.
Ochoa was detained at the scene, later formally charged with rape and harm, and subsequently remanded after his bail was revoked earlier this year.
With Tuesday’s directive from the DPP, both matters have now been officially discontinued.
