By Zoila Palma: Iran has warned against a potential United States ground invasion as the Middle East conflict entered its 30th day, heightening tensions and triggering global economic concerns, CNN reports.
Iranian officials accused Washington of “secretly planning” a land operation despite ongoing discussions, while additional U.S. troop deployments to the region have intensified fears of escalation.
U.S. President Donald Trump, in an interview with the Financial Times, raised the possibility of the United States taking control of Iran’s oil resources. He said his preference would be to “take the oil” and indicated he is considering whether to seize Kharg Island, a strategic hub that handles about 90 percent of Iran’s oil exports. Trump added that such a move could require a prolonged U.S. presence.
President Trump also claimed that Iran has agreed to “most of” a 15-point plan proposed by Washington to end the conflict, although Tehran has previously expressed skepticism and has not formally accepted the terms. Trump further asserted that there has been “regime change” in Iran, a claim not confirmed by Iranian authorities.
Diplomatic efforts are continuing alongside the military tensions, with Pakistan signaling its readiness to host talks between the United States and Iran in the coming days.
