By Aaron Humes: The Belize Police Department is currently investigating a shooting incident that left a police officer and a construction worker injured on Raleigh Street this past Sunday afternoon.
At approximately 2:25 p.m., officers responded to reports of gunfire and arrived at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital to find one of their own, Leroy Kerr, 42, suffering from serious gunshot injuries. Kerr continues to receive medical treatment, with Galvez reportedly sustaining an apparent graze from a bullet.
ASP Stacy Smith, Department staff officer, confirmed that the investigation began shortly after the incident was reported. “What we have learned so far in the course of this ongoing investigation, those 2 individuals as well as another person were working on a house on Raleigh Street when they came under fire. Police investigation into this incident continues…I believe the other person was solely grazed and it is Mr Kerr who is recovering from the injury that he sustained,” Smith stated.
Police urge anyone with additional information related to the shooting to come forward and assist in their inquiries.
