By Zoila Palma: Belize’s latest Consumer Price Index data from the Statistical Institute of Belize (SIB) shows that the ‘Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels’ category rose by 1.0 percent in February 2026 compared to the same month last year.
The increase was primarily driven by a higher price per kilowatt-hour for electricity, which took effect at the start of the year. This adjustment contributed significantly to the overall uptick in housing and utility costs for consumers.
However, liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices fell slightly. The average cost of a 100-pound cylinder decreased by $1.30, from $128.37 in February 2025 to $127.07 in February 2026.
