By Zoila Palma: Belize’s cattle industry has strengthened its position as a key export sector, with rising revenues and increased production, Minister of Agriculture Rodwell Ferguson shared during his budget presentation today.
“In 2025, Belize formally exported 7,748 heads of cattle to Mexico,” Ferguson said, noting that export values rose “from $12.0 million in 2024 to $16.3 million in 2025.”
Informal exports also contributed significantly to earnings. “33,910 heads were exported informally to our neighbours, earning an additional $60.7 million in revenues,” he added.
Ferguson projected further expansion this year.
“It is projected that in 2026, Belize will export 10,000 heads of cattle for the first time to Mexico,” he said, with additional exports to Guatemala expected to generate increased revenues.
