By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Belize’s national drive to strengthen STEM and digital‑skills education gained fresh momentum on Wednesday with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of E‑Governance and the Belize Robotics Federation, a partnership that will roll out VEX robotics training through Digital Connect Centers countrywide.
Prime Minister John Briceño, who attended the launch at the Fort George Digital Connect Center in Belize City, said the agreement forms a part of his administration’s wider technological transformation.
“Today’s MOU signed by the Ministry of E-Governance and the new Belize Robotics Federation is just one of our ‘big push’ towards a modern economy founded on a responsive education, embracing technology,” PM Briceño said in a social media post right after the signing.

Government highlights national impact
The Government of Belize Press Office described the partnership as a major step forward for STEM learning, stating that “STEM and robotics education in Belize are set to reach new heights, thanks to a groundbreaking partnership between the Ministry of E-Governance, the Robotics Federation of Belize, and Vex Robotics.”
The Press Office also noted that VEX Robotics, “a leader in innovative educational technology from the United States of America, joins forces with local organizations to spark curiosity and empower Belizeans with essential digital skills.”
According to the Press Office, the collaboration will “open doors for students across the country, providing hands-on tools for engineering, computing, and cybernetics, all aligned with national priorities such as PlanBelize 2.0 and the National Digital Transformation Strategy.”

Belize City Council participation
Councillors Stephanne Hamilton, Allan Pollard, and Malcolm Nunez represented the Belize City Council at the signing and robotics showcase. In its own statement, the Council celebrated the initiative under the banner “The Future is Robotic!”, noting that the agreement will enable structured VEX robotics training through the expanding network of Digital Connect Centers.
Young innovators take the spotlight
The event featured live demonstrations and student‑built robotics projects, highlighting the creativity and technical skill emerging among young Belizeans. The Press Office noted that Prime Minister Briceño met with several of the country’s “brightest young innovators,” who shared their enthusiasm for robotics and digital learning.
Building a tech‑ready Belize
The partnership is expected to strengthen robotics education, broaden access to hands‑on technology training, and support the development of a workforce equipped for a modern, digitally driven economy. The initiative also aligns with the government’s ongoing efforts to expand digital infrastructure and create new opportunities for youth in science and technology.
