Defenders explode out of the gate

The Belize City Defenders stunned the home crowd early, racing to a 27–14 first‑quarter lead. The Trojans responded with a 27–20 second quarter to close the gap, but the Defenders’ depth and defensive pressure proved decisive after halftime.

Belize City outscored Belmopan 25–20 in the third quarter and maintained their advantage in the fourth.

Nigel Jones and Ajang Aguek lead a balanced Defenders attack

Captain Nigel Jones delivered an all‑around performance, scoring 26 points on 11‑for‑17 shooting while adding 8 rebounds, 2 assists, and 4 steals. His efficiency inside the arc (10‑for‑15) kept the Defenders’ offense steady throughout.

Forward Ajang Aguek was equally influential, posting 18 points and 15 rebounds, setting the tone on the glass. Bobby William added 17 points, including 9‑for‑13 from the free‑throw line, while D’von Campbell chipped in 12 points and 3 assists.

The Defenders finished with 48 rebounds, 52 points in the paint, and 22 fast‑break points.

Bryan Hudson shines for Trojans, but turnovers prove costly

Belmopan’s brightest spark came from Bryan Hudson, who scored 26 points and grabbed 7 rebounds. Jevaughn McKenzie added 14 points, and Jarrel Velasquez contributed 9, but the Trojans struggled to maintain consistency.

Belmopan committed 15 turnovers, leading to 10 Defenders points, and were outscored 52–44 in the paint. Their bench, however, was productive, contributing 45 points, including solid minutes from Corey Nickerson (8 points, 8 rebounds).

Despite a strong second quarter, the Trojans were unable to overcome the early deficit and the Defenders’ sustained pressure.
