By Aaron Humes: A midday shooting on Dean Street this afternoon, Thursday, has led to the death of crime figure Edward Saldano, 26, alias “Scrubboard” or “Scrubby”. Police have detained one person in connection with the murder.
The incident occurred around 12:20 PM when according to initial investigations conducted by the Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), Saldano was in the area of Dean Street at Amara Avenue near his residence, when he stopped to speak with a female acquaintance outside St. Ignatius Primary School. Moments later, a male individual known to Saldano approached him, and the two engaged in a heated verbal confrontation.
The situation quickly escalated when the male suspect brandished a firearm. A struggle ensued between the two men, during which Saldano attempted to wrest control of the weapon. The assailant regained control and fired multiple shots at Saldano, who sustained serious injuries.
Saldano was transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital (KHMH) for medical treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly upon arrival.
The investigation is ongoing, and police say no clear motive has been established. The suspect was picked up in the general area but it is not clear where he is from.
Saldano was out on bail in relation to a robbery on the Belchina Bridge a few months ago, and has been regularly in the news for various offenses.
