By Breaking Belize News Staff: Belama Phase 3 resident Melbourne Wade, 33, is again behind bars after fresh allegations of deception were brought against him in connection with a land transaction that allegedly went sour.
Wade, a driver and tour guide, appeared before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 at the Belize City Magistrate’s Court at around 10:35 a.m. on Friday, where he was read six counts of obtaining money transfer by deception.
The complainant alleges that Wade swindled him out of a total of $16,550 under the pretense of selling him several parcels of land and assisting with related land transactions.
According to police, Vasquez reported that he made six separate payments to Wade but never received any land or assistance as promised.
The charges are as follows:
- Count 1: Between August 29 and September 24, 2025, Wade allegedly obtained $6,450 by deception.
- Count 2: On September 1, 2025, he allegedly obtained $3,000.
- Count 3: On September 2, 2025, he allegedly obtained $1,500.
- Count 4: On September 3, 2025, he allegedly obtained $3,000.
- Count 5: Between September 3 and 7, 2025, he allegedly obtained $2,100.
- Count 6: On September 8, 2025, he allegedly obtained $500.
The Police Corporal Prosecutor strongly objected to bail, citing that this is not the first set of similar allegations made against Wade and that he has matters of a similar nature pending before the court.
The presiding Senior Magistrate agreed, denying bail in the first instance, citing the prevalence, seriousness, and nature of the offenses. Wade was informed that he is at liberty to apply for bail at the High Court.
He was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until April 30, 2026.
Wade has previously faced criminal complaints from several individuals, including former Belize City Mayor Zenaida Moya, though some of those matters reportedly transitioned into civil proceedings.
