By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Salvadoran travel influencer Tío Frank is shining a new spotlight on Belize, producing a series of videos that capture the country’s culture, history, and Caribbean character for his large regional and diaspora audience. His visit adds to the steady rise of international creators choosing Belize as a destination for authentic storytelling.
A Central American Creator With a Global Following
Frank, whose real name is Edgardo Francisco Trejo, has become one of El Salvador’s most recognizable travel content creators. His YouTube channel has climbed to about 477,000 subscribers, and he has built a strong cross‑platform presence with more than a million followers on TikTok and hundreds of thousands on Instagram. His audience spans El Salvador, the Salvadoran diaspora in the United States, and viewers across Latin America who follow his journeys through Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and the Americas.
His style is marked by careful preparation, cultural curiosity, and a commitment to explaining the history and context of the places he visits.

A Dramatic Hook, Followed by a Thoughtful Portrayal
His first Belize video, focused on Belize City, opens with a dramatic caption — “Llegamos con miedo a Belice… El país más raro de Centroamérica” — translated as “We arrived in Belize afraid — the strangest country in Central America.” It’s a typical YouTube hook designed to spark curiosity.
Early in the episode as he enters Belize through the Western border, Tío Frank describes Belize as ‘confusing,’ reflecting the surprise many visitors experience when they cross the border and find that everything — from street names and traffic signs to storefronts — switches to English almost instantly, even though Spanish remains widely spoken throughout the country. The contrast is striking for travellers who associate the region with only Spanish-speaking cultures.
As the video progresses, his impressions evolve. His exploration of the old capital highlights the city’s cultural layers, historical sites, and everyday life. He and his friends visit places that many Belizeans themselves might overlook, offering viewers a perspective that goes beyond stereotypes and first impressions.
The first two episodes of his Belize series already reveal the careful research, historical context, and striking visuals that define his approach to travel storytelling.

San Pedro: Golf Carts, Secret Beach, and the Belize Barrier Reef
His second episode, filmed in San Pedro, Ambergris Caye, captures the island’s distinctive rhythm. He is struck by the widespread use of golf carts as the main mode of transportation, a feature that often surprises first‑time visitors. He also highlights Secret Beach, noting its calm waters and relaxed atmosphere.
The episode continues with a tour along the Belize Barrier Reef, the sevond longest barrier reef in the world, where he swims among nurse sharks and stingrays — the species commonly seen at Shark Ray Alley. His footage shows the close, yet safe, interactions that have made the area one of Belize’s most recognizable marine attractions.
He is now preparing a third instalment on the Great Blue Hole, one of Belize’s most iconic natural landmarks.
