By Rubén Morales Iglesias: No Premier Women’s League of Belize (PWLB) matches will be played this weekend as the league pauses to allow full focus on the Belize Women’s National Team (BWNT), who are in the Dominican Republic preparing for their second match of the 2025–2026 Concacaf W Qualifiers.

The BWNT face the Dominican Republic on Saturday, February 28, at 7:00 pm in Santiago, marking their return to international competition after December’s difficult opening match, when Haiti overpowered Belize 9–0 in Belmopan. That round saw several lopsided scorelines across the region, but the Belize squad has regrouped, resumed training, and is aiming to show progress as the qualifiers continue.

The national team is primarily composed of PWLB players, with representatives from Napoles FC, Sagitun GIRLZ, Jewel Fury, and Corozal Elite, reflecting the league’s central role in developing Belize’s top women’s football talent. The 20‑player roster includes key PWLB standouts such as captain Sabrina Eiley, Khalydia Velasquez, Roshanny Narváez, Jaysha Bernardez, Stephanie Barrientos, Carlene Tillett, Shadette Lino, Shamika Lambey, Tammy Baptist, Kenya Pérez, Alisha Terry, and Jayda Brown, among others.

Saturday’s match begins a decisive stretch for the BWNT, who still have two fixtures remaining in Group D:

  • April 13, 2026 – Belize vs Anguilla (FFB Stadium, Belmopan)
  • April 17, 2026 – Suriname vs Belize (Paramaribo)

Only the group winners advance to the 2026 Concacaf W Championship, the pathway to the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

PWLB Closing Championship resumes March 13–14

With the BWNT on international duty, the PWLB will resume next month with the second round of the regular season.

These matchups open the second half of the short four‑team competition, with all clubs still in contention following a tightly contested first round.

PWLB Standings after Week 3

The PWLB table remains extremely tight after three rounds. Napoles FC now lead the competition with five points, having earned their first win of the Closing Championship in Week 3. Jewel Fury and Sagitun GIRLZ follow closely behind on four points each, with Fury holding a win and a draw from their opening matches and Sagitun GIRLZ climbing back into contention after their strong 3–1 victory in Orange Walk. Corozal Elite, who opened the season with two draws before falling at home last weekend, sit on two points, still very much within reach in a league where only three points separate first from fourth.
