By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): JetBlue Airways will discontinue its service between New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport and Philip S. W. Goldson International Airport (BZE) effective May 21, the airline has confirmed.
The move comes as part of JetBlue’s broader “JetForward” transformation program aimed at improving profitability and streamlining operations.
A JetBlue spokesperson stated that the Belize route did not meet the company’s performance expectations, noting that the airline is shifting resources to routes “where we can sustainably win.”
JetBlue began flying to Belize in 2023, expanding travel options between the United States and Belize’s largest international gateway. The route provided direct access for U.S. travelers, particularly from the northeastern United States, a key tourism market for Belize.
The airline’s decision means passengers will need to rely on other carriers that continue to operate flights between the United States and Belize.
Industry analysts note that while the exit may slightly impact seat availability from the New York market, the overall effect on Belize’s tourism industry is expected to be limited, as multiple U.S. airlines continue servicing the destination.
JetBlue indicated the route accounted for only a small fraction of its overall network capacity and will not significantly affect its systemwide growth projections for 2026.
The airline plans to grow capacity in other markets this year as part of its financial turnaround strategy.
