By Breaking Belize News Staff: Arthur Simon Hill’s pre-trial hearing in the High Court on Thursday was adjourned to April 13, 2026, after his attorney sought additional time to consult with him at the Belize Central Prison.

Hill, 28, is accused of the January 31, 2024 murder of his 19-year-old brother-in-law, Levan Christopher Aldana of Biscayne Village. He appeared before Justice Candace Nanton on Thursday for a scheduled pre-trial hearing.

His attorney, Norman Rodriguez, requested a one-week adjournment to facilitate a prison visit so he could take further instructions from Hill and determine the way forward in the murder trial. Justice Nanton, who has carriage over the matter, granted the request.

The court ordered that the defense file its amended Part 2 Case Management Conference (CMC) form on or before March 30, 2026. A trial date has not yet been set.

Hill was originally arraigned on February 5, 2024, in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court, where no plea was taken due to the indictable nature of the offense. He has since been remanded to the Belize Central Prison.

Police reports indicate that on the evening of Wednesday, January 31, 2024, Aldana and Hill were socializing and drinking in Biscayne Village at Mile 26 ¾ on the Philip Goldson Highway.

According to reports, at around 6:30 p.m., Aldana was heard desperately banging on a door, pleading for it to be opened. His mother-in-law reported that when the door was opened, she heard her daughter scream. Aldana was seen with severe injuries, including wounds to his neck and face, and his intestines protruding from his abdomen.

Relatives stated that Aldana identified his attacker before he was rushed to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The matter now returns to court on April 13, 2026, for further pre-trial proceedings.
