By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police in the Orange Walk District have detained one person as they investigate a stabbing incident that left an 88-year-old farmer hospitalized.

Reports are that around 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 24, police visited the Northern Regional Hospital following information received. Upon arrival, officers observed 88-year-old Gabriel Tecka, a Belizean farmer of Yo Creek Village, suffering from a stab wound to his body.

Initial investigations revealed that about 9:00 a.m., Tecka was working on a farm in the Orange Walk District along with another male person known only as “Negro Lopez.” Police say the individual approached Tecka and accused him of eating his groceries. The dispute escalated when “Negro Lopez” allegedly picked up a farm fork and stabbed the elderly man.

Despite his injuries, Tecka reportedly removed the fork from his chest and made his way toward the main road, where he was assisted and transported to the hospital. He received medical treatment and was admitted in stable condition.

Police have since detained one person as investigations into the attempted murder continue.
