By Zoila Palma:  Saint Kitts and Nevis today hosts the Opening Ceremony of the 50th Regular Meeting of the Conference of Heads of Government of the Caribbean Community, marking a historic milestone in regional integration.

Regional leaders are gathering under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Terrance Drew for high-level discussions expected to shape the future of the Caribbean Community.

The meeting, which runs from February 24–27 in Basseterre, is being held under the theme “Beyond Words: Action Today for a Thriving, Sustainable CARICOM.”

The Opening Ceremony takes place on February 24 at the Marriott Dome in Frigate Bay and will feature addresses from Dr. Drew and other regional leaders.

Among those scheduled to deliver remarks are the Outgoing Chair, Prime Minister Andrew Holness of Jamaica, and Secretary-General Carla Barnett.

Dr. Drew assumed chairmanship of the Community on January 1, 2026, and will preside over the proceedings.

Throughout February 23, Ministers of Government welcomed arriving delegates at the KayanJet Lounge, including Prime Minister John Briceno of Belize, Premier Cora Richardson-Hodge of Anguilla, Prime Minister Godwin Friday of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica.

Key agenda items include the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME), climate change and financing, food and nutrition security, regional security, transportation connectivity, reparations, and foreign and community relations.

The Conference will conclude with a closing media conference on February 27 at 5:00 p.m., as leaders reflect on more than five decades of progress and outline a forward-looking course for a united and resilient Caribbean Community.
