By Breaking Belize News Staff: Thirty-three-year-old Ellis Meighan, also known as “Juice,” was provided with 181 pages of disclosure along with 22 original photographs as he made his second appearance in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court on Monday in connection with a shooting murder that occurred in Placencia.
Meighan was escorted from the prison van shortly after 9:00 a.m. and, approximately two and a half hours later, was brought before the Chief Magistrate in Court #1. During the hearing, the Chief Magistrate explained that the matter properly falls under the jurisdiction of the Independence Magistrate’s Court and that Meighan was brought to Belize City only due to the absence of a magistrate in that jurisdiction.
In court, Meighan was formally handed full disclosure in the murder case against him, totaling 181 pages and 22 original photographs.
Meighan, who was represented by Attorney Abibi Moguel of Lynden Jones Law Firm, was informed that his next court date is set for April 8, 2026, in the Independence Magistrate’s Court. That date has been scheduled for his Preliminary Inquiry (PI).
Meighan was first arraigned on Friday, September 12, 2025, after being deported from the United States and brought into Belize City to face a single charge of murder.
He is accused of the April 2024 shooting death of Roy Lee Burgess in Placencia. He also faces charges of attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm, and dangerous harm in relation to American national Maia James, who was shot in the head during the incident but survived.
On April 8, 2026, Meighan is expected to appear before the Independence Magistrate’s Court as his case proceeds to the next stage.
