By Rubén Morales Iglesias: With Verdes inactive this weekend after their match against Port Layola was postponed, Progresso FC took full advantage and moved to the top of the Premier League of Belize Closing Championship with a 1–0 victory over Belmopan FC at the People’s Stadium in Orange Walk.
The breakthrough came in the 71st minute, when Keydenshaay Bowen (#9) found the back of the net, finishing the move that ultimately separated the sides. Belmopan pushed late in search of an equalizer, but Progresso held firm to secure the three points.
The final whistle confirmed 1-0 victory for the homeside.
The win lifts Progresso to 13 points from four wins and a draw, placing them first in the standings. Verdes, perfect with 12 points from four wins, drop to second for the moment due to their postponed fixture.
Belmopan remain on 6 points as the battle for the top four tightens.
