By Aaron Humes: Muslims around the world, including those in Belize, have begun observing Ramadan, the holiest month in the Islamic calendar, according to the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat (AMJ) Belize.
During this sacred period, Muslims will fast from sunrise to sunset for 30 days, focusing on spiritual growth, self-reflection, and good deeds, eating larger traditional meals early in the morning and later in the evening, and subsisting on water and other fluids. During daytime hours, worshipers are encouraged to focus on gaining the pleasure of God through doing good works.
The AMJ community extends an invitation to people of all faiths to join in the spirit of Ramadan, and welcomes non-Muslims to learn about and participate in the traditions and practices of the month.
Notably, Ash Wednesday, Lunar New Year, and Ramadan have fallen in the same week for the first time in some time.
