By Aaron Humes: Police continue their investigations into a shooting incident this evening in Belize City, in the middle of the alleged territory of the George Street Gang.
One person identified as James Saldano was hit and grazed by gunfire, but we understand he was not the intended target. He was taken to Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital for treatment.
A late report from police says the incident occurred just before 5 p.m. in the area between Basra, South and George Streets where police saw several expended shells on the street side and in the drain. Three young men were at a residence on South Street, socializing, when they began hearing loud bangs coming from the direction of the street which they believed to be gunfire. They fled and escaped through the back of the yard and were not hurt.
Police have recovered the suspected firearm used in the incident and initially detained one person as part of their investigations. At present no persons are detained and those investigations continue.
