By Aaron Humes: Police are investigating a double murder Friday night in Belmopan that left two young men dead.
Around 7:45 p.m. officers responded to reports of gunfire near the City Council area.
Police were escorted to a sidewalk heading toward the Belmopan Police Station, where they found two motionless men about 100 yards away from the children’s home.
The victims were later identified as Zamar Alvarez, 21, of Belmopan, and Calvert Webster, 20, of Mahogany Heights, Belize District. Both men had apparent gunshot wounds to the head, while Webster also had a wound to the abdomen.
The scene was processed and one expended shell was recovered.
The motive remains unknown at this time. Police investigations are ongoing.
