By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Charles Leslie Jr powered to victory in the Weekend Warriors Friday Valentine’s Cycling Race, finishing ahead of Henry “Henno” Moreira after the two rode together for most of the at the front of the field on the Philip Goldson International Airport circuit.

The start and finish line were located on the Philip Goldson International Airport Road in Ladyville, near the Philip Goldson Highway. Soon after the race began, Leslie and Moreira took control, setting the pace over both laps around the Airport and John Smith roads. They arrived at the line together and chose not to sprint. Moreira, showing camaraderie and respect, eased off and settled for second place, allowing Leslie to claim the win.

After the race, Leslie explained on the Ordoñez Bike Shop livestream that he and Moreira had agreed on a strategy early on. They decided to hold a steady pace of 26–27 mph to keep the sprinters from closing the gap. The two riders rotated the tempo, shared the workload, and committed to staying away. Leslie said the plan was simple and smart: work together, stay away, and split the $500 prize. He noted that if the sprinters had caught them, neither he nor Moreira would have had a chance at the win. He also praised Moreira.

“I want to big up Henry. Henry is a strong contender,” Leslie said.

Moreira, for his part, also praised Leslie, calling him a strong and upcoming rider and saying the two were “bundles of joy” working together at the front. He emphasized that racing isn’t only about winning, noting that he has already won several Weekend Warriors events. For him, Friday’s race was about teamwork, rotating the tempo, doing what it took to stay away, and enjoying the ride. “It’s not all about winning all the time,” he said. “Charlie got the win, and hat’s off to the man. I always come out to have fun. I want to big up all who came out to participate”

The peloton arrived shortly after the leading duo, with Dwyane Wade sprinting in for third place, followed by Barney Brown, who secured fourth.
