By Rubén Morales Iglesias: Gwen Lizarraga High School’s third consecutive Central Secondary Schools Sports Association (CSSSA) Boys Football Championship came with a clean sweep of the tournament’s individual awards, underscoring the depth and dominance of the defending national champions.
Tyrone Linares Jr earned Most Valuable Player honours after a commanding tournament on both sides of the ball. His leadership, ball-winning ability, and composure in the penalty shootout made him indispensable to Gwen Liz’s title run.

Linares also claimed the Best Defender award, reflecting his consistency and impact in shutting down opposing attacks throughout the competition.
The Most Goals award went to Tyler Gentle, whose finishing touch powered Gwen Liz through the semifinals and into the final. His brace in the semifinal win over ACC was one of the standout performances of the tournament.

Between the posts, Shane Vernon was named Best Goalkeeper, for the third year in a row, after a brilliant showing in the championship match. His three consecutive saves in the shootout against Wesley College sealed the 4–1 victory after a 0–0 draw through regulation and overtime.
With all four individual awards and another district title secured, Gwen Liz now turn their attention to defending their national crown at the NSSSA Championship, hosted by Wesley College on February 19–20 at the Marion Jones Sports Complex in Belize City, where they’ll face:
Orange Walk Technical (North)
Sacred Heart College (West)
Julian Cho Technical (South)
Last year, Gwen Liz clinched the NSSSA title on a 3–1 win over Belize High School of Agriculture.
