By Aaron Humes: 34-year-old Bernardo Gorosica, also known as “Sparrow,” was shot and killed on South Riverside Street, Dangriga Town, on Friday evening. Known both as a fishing expert and a prominent figure in the Salty Dog area, Gorosica’s death raises questions about the true nature of his life, as locals remember him as a dedicated father but others suggest darker connections.

The police investigation began shortly after 6:12 PM when officers were alerted to the sound of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered Gorosica’s unresponsive body with multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses reported seeing a grey-silver Chevrolet vehicle without license plates fleeing the scene as the shots were fired.

ASP Stacy Smith, Police Department Staff Officer from the Crimes Investigation Branch, detailed what happened next at Monday’s press briefing. “A police operation was immediately launched by the QR [Quick Response] Team personnel and this led to a silver Chevrolet being pursued and intercepted near the outskirts of Dangriga Town. A male person was observed exiting the vehicle and [escaping] in the bushy terrain of that area,” she stated. The car has since been impounded, and the registered owner’s identity has been confirmed.

In the aftermath, the police have detained one person believed to have information relevant to the investigation and are actively searching for another individual connected to the case. However, ASP Smith confirmed, “No motive has been established so far.”

Gorosica leaves behind three young boys as police investigations continue. Those who can assist are urged to come forward with any relevant information that may assist in resolving this case.
