Ministry of Agriculture hosts training on soursop and pitahaya management in Corozal

By Zoila Palma:  Recognizing the growing importance of Soursop and Pitahaya for Belize’s Agriculture and Food Security, the Corozal Agriculture Extension, led by Melissa Balan in collaboration with CRESAP successfully hosted a two-day training session on Crop Production and Management.

Twenty-five farmers, teachers, financial institution representatives along with extension officers participated in sessions facilitated by the National Fruit Tree Program Coordinator from the Research Development and Innovation Center, Central Farm.

Technical presentations were delivered by Israel Pech and Enrique Rivas. 

The training covered several topics in crop establishment for both soursop and pitahaya production.

It also included husbandry practices demonstrated at the farm level including pollination, pruning, best forms of fertilization, pest & disease recognition and control up to harvesting.
