By Rubén Morales Iglesias: The U17 Belize Women’s National Team (U17 BWNT) wrapped up their Group A campaign at the Concacaf Women’s U17 Championship with a 2–2 draw against the U.S. Virgin Islands on Monday afternoon at the Miguel “Chocorrón” Buitrago Stadium in Managua, Nicaragua.
After a scoreless first half, Belize struck first through Sophia Ellis, who broke the deadlock in the 57th minute with a composed finish. The U.S. Virgin Islands responded quickly, however, as R. Marshall equalized in the 73rd minute, bringing the match level at 1–1.
Belize regained the lead just four minutes later. Ellis completed her brace in the 77th minute, finishing a well‑timed play set up by Jayna Avila, putting the U17 BWNT ahead 2–1.
But the U.S. Virgin Islands found another response. K. Groetzinger converted a penalty in the 81st minute, tying the match 2–2 and closing out the scoring in a lively final stretch.
Despite both sides pushing for a late winner, the match ended level.
The result gives Belize four points from their four group matches, including a win over Dominica, a draw against the U.S. Virgin Islands, and defeats to Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic. Belize finished third ahead of USVI on goal difference.
