Belize City Council’s City Emergency Management Organization and partner organizations work on Belize National Tsunami Plan

By Zoila Palma:  Recently, representatives of the Belize City Council’s City Emergency Management Organization (CEMO), Planning and GIS Units participated in a collaborative planning meeting with the National Emergency Management Organization (NEMO), the National Meteorological Service of Belize (NMS), and the International Tsunami Information Centre Caribbean Office (ITIC-CAR) as part of ongoing efforts to finalize the Belize National Tsunami Plan.

Discussions included reviewing the draft National Tsunami Plan and the Belize City Evacuation Plan, reinforcing the agencies shared commitment to preparedness, resilience, and the protection of lives and property in the event of natural disasters.

“This collaborative effort reflects our continued commitment to strengthening disaster preparedness and ensuring the safety and resilience of Belize City and its residents,” the Belize City Council noted.
