Hon. Dr. Louis Zabaneh, Minister of Religious Affairs, convened a constructive and respectful meeting on Friday, January 23, 2026, with leaders of the Muslim community to discuss matters relevant to the portfolio of Religious Affairs.
The session provided an important opportunity to listen to the perspectives and concerns of Muslim leaders, particularly regarding the evolving role of Religious Affairs within the Ministry. The Muslim leaders highlighted the value of dialogue, mutual respect, and representation in shaping policies that affect faith-based communities.
The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that Religious Affairs is managed in a manner that respects the diversity of beliefs practiced throughout Belize. It emphasized that all religious groups, including the Muslim community, play a vital role in the social fabric of the country and must be engaged meaningfully in national conversations.
Discussions also touched on the importance of strengthening collaboration, promoting understanding, and ensuring that government processes remain transparent, inclusive, and fair to all denominations. The Ministry conveyed its appreciation to the Muslim leaders for their willingness to engage openly and constructively.
Moving forward, the Ministry will continue to partner with religious organizations nationwide as it further defines and develops the Religious Affairs portfolio. This meeting marks an important step in deepening cooperation and ensuring that policies are informed by the voices of all communities.
Present at the meeting were Imam Nuri Muhammad, Imam Kaleem El-Amin, Imam Muhammad Raees, and Aeesha El-Amin Bradley, leaders from the Muslim Community. Also in attendance from the Ministry of Constitution and Religious Affairs, Indigenous Affairs and Transportation were Hon. Dr. Louis Zabaneh; Ginee Neal, Director of Constitution and Religious Affairs; and Anna Loague, Director of Planning and Research.
