By Breaking Belize News Staff: A 20-year-old construction worker pleaded guilty on Monday to stealing nine coconuts valued at $18 from a neighbour’s yard and is now out on bail pending sentencing.
The accused is David Noel Lamb, also known as “Bigs,” of a New Road address, Belize City. Lamb appeared unrepresented before the Chief Magistrate in Court #1, where he was read a single charge of theft.
Police allege that on Sunday, January 25, 2026, Lamb stole nine coconuts valued at $2 each, the property of a neighbor. In court, Lamb pleaded guilty and told the magistrate that it was the first time he had gone into the woman’s yard to steal coconuts.
The woman reported that at about 12:46 p.m. she heard objects striking her house on three occasions. She said she then saw three young men exiting her yard with coconuts in their hands. According to the woman, while she does not know the men by name, she recognized them by face and claimed they often go to her yard and harass her.
Police who responded to the report said they found a red ladder at the scene, which the young men allegedly used to climb into the coconut tree. The ladder and the stolen coconuts were taken as exhibits.
After the facts were read and Lamb maintained his guilty plea, the Chief Magistrate requested that the virtual complainant be present before sentencing. The coconut owner indicated she would attend court on Tuesday morning.
In the meantime, Lamb was granted bail in the sum of $500 plus one surety of the same. He is due back in court at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, when sentencing is expected to be handed down.
