By Zoila Palma:  The Central American country of El Salvador is experiencing a tourism boom largely due to its beautiful historic center, volcanoes and natural wonders and security initiatives.

U.N. tourism has recognized El Salvador as the second-fastest growing tourism destination globally.

In addition, El Salvador is recognized for the world’s first “Family Friendly” destination—a distinction recognizing it as a safe, inclusive, and accessible place for all ages, where family bonds are strengthened and sustainable tourism is promoted.

This also positions the country as a benchmark in the sector.

El Salvador will also host World Tourism Day 2026, a milestone that reinforces international confidence in the Salvadoran tourism model.

This international recognition has contributed to El Salvador’s repositioning in the 2026 Global Soft Power Index, produced by the British firm Brand Finance.

The country’s improved perception has driven a historic rise over the past two years, climbing 38 positions to rank 76th globally.

This ranking is even more significant in the regional context, placing El Salvador in the Top 10 countries in Latin America.
