By Breaking Belize News Staff: Thirty-six-year-old Ryan Nolberto is behind bars after unpaid court fines caught up with him following a guilty plea for possession of a crack pipe.

Nolberto appeared before a Senior Magistrate in Court #2 where he pleaded guilty to possession of utensils used for smoking a controlled drug. He was fined $200 plus a $5 cost of court and given until March 20, 2026, to pay, in default two months’ imprisonment.

However, court records revealed that Nolberto had outstanding fines totaling $1,005. Unable to pay at least half of that amount, he was escorted to the Belize Central Prison on a warrant to serve four months’ imprisonment in default of payment.

According to police, the incident occurred around 2:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 22, 2026, while police were on mobile patrol on Cleghorn Street, Belize City. The officers observed two men acting suspiciously upon seeing the police.

Police approached and searched Nolberto, during which the officer felt a bulky object in the waistband of his pants. Due to poor lighting at the scene, Nolberto was taken to the Queen Street Police Station for a further search.

At the station, police discovered a bronze-colored pipe measuring about 1¾ inches, with a rubber tip and mesh inside. Nolberto was subsequently charged and later pleaded guilty in court.
