By Zoila Palma:  Today, the Embassy of Venezuela in Belize organized a vigil in Belize City calling for the “return to Venezuela of its constitutional president, Nicolás Maduro Moros, and First Lady Cilia Flores.”

The Venezuelan Embassy also said that the vigil served to honor the “combatants who fell in the aggression against the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, perpetrated on January 3, 2026.”

A statement from the Venezuelan Embassy said that Belizean friends of Venezuela, as well as members of the Cuban Medical Brigade, the leadership of the Cuban State Mission in Belize, and representatives from the Venezuelan and Cuban embassies accredited in Belize “expressed their deepest sorrow and offered their heartfelt condolences to the families, comrades, and people of Venezuela and Cuba. Cuba mourned the loss of these brave combatants, joining in the grief for the fallen and reaffirming that, even amidst the pain, there will be no surrender or forgetting, and that the blood shed strengthens the commitment to continue defending the life, sovereignty, and truth of our peoples against any form of foreign interference and violence.”

Attendees of the event demanded the immediate release of Nicolás Maduro, and Cilia Flores.

“The Venezuelan Ambassador to Belize, Gerardo Argote, addressed those present, recounting the events of January 3rd, and then referring to the kidnapped presidential couple, asserting that they will be back in Venezuela sooner rather than later, as they are innocent and have the right to be justified by reason, morality, and international law,” the embassy stated.
