By Zoila Palma:  Today, George Price Day is being celebrated to commemorate the legacy of Belize’s Independence leader and first Prime Minister, the Right Honourable George Cadle Price.

As part of the national observances, Minister of Immigration, Governance and Labour Kareem Musa marked the occasion with the installation of a commemorative billboard at the intersection of Princess Margaret Drive and Coney Drive.

A ceremony was held at Nazarene High School, attended by students from nearby primary schools.

Representatives from 4 schools read selected quotes from Price, reflecting on his role in Belize’s long struggle for self-government and independence.

Minister Musa presented books and posters to student representatives from the participating institutions.

The ceremony concluded with the unveiling of the billboard, followed by a firework display.

Price served as Premier of British Honduras from 1961 to 1964 and later as Belize’s first Prime Minister from 1981 to 1984, guiding the country in its early years as an independent state.
